The Perry Panthers had their home opener earlier tonight against county rival Veterans and this was a hard fought battle from start to finish with the Maroon, Gold, and White winning 4-3. The Warhawks got the scoring started in the top of the first when Bryce Dryden reached first on a dropped third strike and Brandon Mercer and Joshua Chavous both scored to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
The host cut the gap in half in the last of the first when Jackson Thompson hit a sac fly to drive in Nate Sullivan and the score would remain 2-1 Veterans through 4 1/2 innings of play. In the last of the fifth, Nate Sullivan hit an rbi single to drive in Nate Walker to tie the game and Nate Sullivan would later score on a passed ball to give Perry a 3-2 lead which they would keep going into the seventh inning.
The Red, White, and Blue would tie the game at three in the first of the seventh when Bryce Masters hit an rbi triple to drive in Jackson Eaton but would be unable to get the lead as the host kept the game tied heading into the last of the seventh. Jackson Thompson would hit a walk-off rbi double to drive in Nate Sullivan to give Perry the 4-3 victory for it’s first win of 2025.
Jackson Thompson led the Maroon, Gold, and White in rbis with two followed by Nate Sullivan with one. The Warhawks were led in rbis by Bryce Dryden with two followed by Brooks Masters with one. Panthers’ SP Connor Langdon pitched for four innings and surrendered two unearned runs on no hits, walking two, and striking out 11 in the process while Jonathon Kohlman relief pitched the remaining three innings and surrendered one unearned run on one hit, walking two, and striking out six.
Veterans’ pitchers, Tyler Knight and Brandon Fuller combined to allow four runs (three earned) on eight hits, walking one, and striking out three. The Panthers improve to 1-3 overall while the Warhawks fall to 3-4 overall after starting 3-0 and will host Perry tomorrow night at 6:30pm.
