The Houston County Bears hosted county and region rival Northside in a doubleheader Friday night.
In game one, Houston County slowly built momentum, taking a 4–1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. That’s when the Bears exploded offensively. Houston County plated seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early, defeating the Eagles 11–1 in five innings and securing their first region series win of the 2026 season.
Starting pitcher Ethan Kenney delivered a complete game on the mound for the Bears, striking out four while allowing just one hit and one unearned run.
In game two, Houston County jumped out to a 1–0 lead thanks to a throwing error by Northside. The Bears’ offense struggled early, holding just that one-run lead until the fourth inning. Houston County then added three more runs to extend the lead to 4–0.
Northside managed to score one run, but the Bears answered with another to make it 5–1 and would go on to win by that same score. Despite being the closest margin in recent meetings between the teams, Houston County still secured the sweep.
Starting pitcher Tyson Ganas recorded seven strikeouts over four innings and earned the win, while the bullpen closed things out effectively.
With the sweep, Houston County improves to 10–2 overall and 3–0 in region play. The Bears now turn their attention to county rival Veterans in the Highway 96 rivalry game next Tuesday, which will be hosted by Houston County.
Northside falls to 9–4 overall and 0–3 in region play. The Eagles will travel to Westside-Macon next Monday before heading to Lee Co on Tuesday.
