The Veterans Warhawks opened region play at home yesterday evening against the Thomas Co Central Yellowjackets and the result was a 4-3 Red, White, Blue, and Black victory. The Warhawks plated the first two runs of the contest in the last of the first via an error and a wild pitch and the visitors responded with three runs of their own in the top of the second to lead 3-2 after one and a half innings of play.
In the bottom of the third, Warhawks’ Brooks Masters hit a go-ahead two-rbi single to drive in Kason Flowers and Joshua Chavous to give Veterans the 4-3 lead which would ultimately be the final score of the contest as the last three and a half innings went scoreless. Brooks Masters led the Red, White, Blue, and Black in rbis with two followed by Brandon Mercer with one.
Masters was also the SP for the Warhawks and he pitched for 4 2/3rds innings and surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits, walking one, and striking out seven in the process. Brandon Mercer came in and relief pitched the remaining 2 1/3rd innings and surrendered no runs on one hit, walking one, and striking out three.
Veterans improves to 5-4 overall; 1-0 in region play while the Jackets fall to 4-5 overall; 0-1 in region play and these two will meet in Thomasville for a doubleheader on Friday.
Elsewhere, Bleckley Co hosted Southwest in a region doubleheader and won 10-0 in five and 15-1 in five to improve to 6-4 overall and remain undefeated in region play. Monday Night saw Warner Robins in action at home against Northeast and picked up the 10-5 victory and Jones Co played at Eagle’s Landing and won 17-0 in three innings.
