Perry overcomes early six run deficit to dominate Northside

The Perry Panthers hosted county rival Northside earlier tonight and the result was a dominate Panthers’ victory over the Eagles 16-6 in five innings. The visitors would pounce on the host by plating six runs in the top of the first due to a whopping four Perry errors to lead 6-0 going into the last of the first.

The Maroon, Gold, and White would answer quickly as they plated five in the first to trail 6-5 and they would plate four in the second to lead 9-6 and Perry would continue to pull away by plating three in the third to lead 12-6 and 16-6 after plating four in the fourth. The host would keep the Eagles off the board in the top of the fifth to win 16-6 in five innings to get the season sweep.

Jackson Thompson led the Panthers in rbis with five followed by Seth Harper with three, Nathan Sullivan with two, and Nate O’Rear, Carson Shaw, and Brady Bearden with one each while Northside had five rbis and they were by Kiesen Williams and Marty Dietrich with two a piece, and Emerson Rugama with one.

Panthers’ SP Zack Herman pitched four innings and surrendered six unearned runs on four hits, walking three, and striking out four in the process while his reliever Finn Hawk pitched one inning and surrendered no runs on two hits, walking none, and striking out one in the process.

The Eagles’ pitchers combined to allow 16 runs (13 earned) on 11 hits, walking seven, and striking out five in the process. Perry committed five errors while Northside committed three errors and the Maroon, Gold, and White improve to 14-2 overall and will go back into region play with a home game against Howard tomorrow and the Blue, Orange, and White will also return to region play as they host Tift Co tomorrow.
